School Notes Overview:

Crossroad was founded 125 years ago as an orphans’ home by predecessors to the United Church of Christ. Crossroad creates promising futures for children in difficult circumstance by providing therapy, education, and family support services. Crossroad seeks to help youth in three primary ways by treating children and youth who live on our campus, by helping children and families who live at home but visit our campus and by serving the community. Residential Treatment. For campus residents, Crossroad has a variety of care options. The level of security and treatment intensity varies, depending on the needs of the child. Young people with minimal security needs attend local public schools, participate in community activities and hold jobs. Those with the highest security needs are treated in locked facilities under 24-hour supervision. Troubled and abused children need lots of love, hope and therapy to recover from their traumas. And while they’re getting better, these kids also need to continue their education so they’re prepared to live on their own and be contributing members of society. Crossroad’s on-campus school, one of the few of its kind among Indiana agencies dealing with troubled youth, helps students keep up academically and prepare for their future. The school is operated in cooperation with Fort Wayne Community Schools and staffed by certified elementary, secondary and special education teachers. Instructional assistants and teachers’ aides also work in our classrooms....
