Our mission at St. Margaret's Episcopal School is to educate the hearts and minds of young people for lives of learning, leadership and service.
A pillar of the St. Margaret's mission is to educate students for lives of service. Our community believes that an essential outcome of our education is that our students and graduates feel the compassion, responsibility and calling to serve others and be active and contributing citizens within their communities and the world.
The early childhood program is structured to meet each child at his or her unique stage of development, focusing on cognitive, physical, social, emotional and creative growth.
The Lower School's differentiated curriculum evolves to give students a strong foundation in reading, writing, and math, along with science, STEM, social studies, world languages, physical education and art. This proven approach to educating young children best prepares them for future social and academic success.
The Preschool curriculum develops exploration and foundation skills, receiving the highest marks from the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Its Outdoor Classroom, an exploratorium, science lab, nature center, artist's studio and gym, is recognized as a Demonstration Site by the California Outdoor Classroom Project.
The school invests heavily in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, with robotics and engineering programs beginning in kindergarten progressing to college-level computer science and engineering programs in the Upper School.
Celebration and study of the arts are integral to the development of every student. Classes in theater, dance, orchestra, band, choir, and visual arts challenge students to be creative thinkers and problem solvers. The 45,000-square-foot Performing Arts Center opened in 2012 supports a vibrant arts program.
From gross motor development in Preschool to 24 CIF varsity sports, physical education emphasizes active and healthy living, integrity, teamwork, respect and spirited competition. In 2015, Boys Lacrosse won their second U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section Championship in three years. Tartans Athletics has achieved 30 team CIF-SS Championships, and nine team State Championships.
Every graduate is prepared and qualified to enroll in a four-year college or university, and because of the school's reputation for the depth and quality of its education, more than 135 leading colleges and universities across the country visit St. Margaret's annually to recruit its graduates.
St. Margaret's is located on 22 scenic acres with designated campuses for its Preschool, Lower School, Middle School and Upper School. The state-of-the-art, innovative 24,000 square-foot Maseeh Middle School campus opened in 2015. Three state-of-the-art maker spaces and design and fabrication labs in Lower, Middle and Upper Schools allow students to create, innovate and invent.
Founded in 1979, St. Margaret's Episcopal School is the premier, independent, college-preparatory day school in Orange County serving 1,250 students in preschool through grade 12.
St. Margaret's is situated on a picturesque 22-acre campus in historic San Juan Capistrano, California, with dedicated campuses for each school division, modern classrooms and facilities, including a performing arts center, science and technology labs, library, athletics fields and gymnasiums.
With 2,000 alumni who have matriculated to colleges and universities across the country, St. Margaret's is a vital member of the San Juan Capistrano community and educational landscape of Southern California.
