School Notes

  • Welcome to St. Mary Magdalene Catholic School! St. Mary Magdalene Catholic School was established in the summer of 1999 and opened its doors in the fall of 2000. In the ensuing years, our dynamic school community has made our campus a warm, engaging, and safe place to learn. Our mission. "We pray. We learn. We care.", can be seen throughout our campus in many ways. The StMM staff is dedicated to providing exceptional spiritual and academic instruction for all of our students. Since StMM's founding, our faculty and staff have tailored the Diocesan curriculum to the high caliber of students that attend our school. This accelerated instruction philosophy allows students to work toward the completion of at least one year of high school math. This acceleration carries into other subjects as well; more than 40% of our eighth graders are inducted into the National Junior Honor Society each year. Using a diverse range of traditional and current teaching methods, we make it a top priority to teach each student as an individual. Learning extends to the arts as well. Students are invited to join the band in fourth grade, and continue their education in the arts into the upper middle school years in specialized elective courses. Our chorus classes participate in the annual Christmas Pageant and spring performances as well as Mass, and student art can be seen throughout the facility. Prayer and our Catholic faith are an integral part of our school day. As a school community, we come together each morning and afternoon with a school-wide prayer. Additionally, the entire school celebrates Mass weekly and regularly includes students as readers, ushers, and altar servers. School-wide Lenten and Advent prayer services are also part of our faith traditions.Together with their academic and spiritual values, our students also proclaim their living faith through a commitment to serve in the school and community. Each grade participates in service projects throughout the year, such as the local Brown Bag Ministry. StMM is proud of its accomplishments and our students are equally successful in other areas. Our sports teams have accumulated 31 league or tournament championships in our first 12 years. Also, our students have been successful at the local, regional, and state levels through our many academic clubs and in competitions such as Science Olympiad, Math Counts, and Chess Team. We invite you to learn more about St. Mary Magdalene Catholic School. Our successes are many and the future is bright. Come join us.

I have 12 years of STMM experience between my 3 students. We are happy with the school. There is little teacher turn over - if any. The teachers are good people who truly want to be teaching. The class sizes are large and I initially thought this would be an issue, but discipline is firm and never once was a problem. The math program allows for many levels, but I would say that their ''regular'' math classes in each grade are a little ahead. When we began at the school, the reading program was just okay. It has since become a richer program and is coupled nicely with more writing instruction. The students become quite grade driven - and learn independence quickly. As of 3 years ago most of the teachers began using computer programs and sites to help teach subjects. My students love learning this way - grammar flash cards on line are more interesting. The weak link; if I had to pick one, would be third grade. At least when I had children in that grade, there were a lot of handouts, packets and worksheets. Sadly, very little creativity and no room for an advanced reader to be stimulated as the class books were read via a tape recorder! That said, my child went to grade 4 ready to fill in blanks endlessly and stay on task. But the 4th grade teachers on up into middle school are just great! StMM has some of the best math teachers I''ve run across. Other than grade 3 - we have loved the school, it's principal, the teachers and the parents. It is a happy place with a ton of school spirit. We are not Catholic and that fact never made a difference at all....

I have had children at St. Mary Magdalene School since it opened in 2000 and have been very happy with the environment. We are blessed to have had one pastor, principal and asst principal this entire time. My 3 children have been challenged academically, particularly in math. My kids were all at different math levels and were able to get the math that they needed. They have a great arts program - my children were in the band and/or in the school musicals. Sports are top-notch, there are overnight field trips for all of the older grades, teachers are happy to tutor, etc.
