Westside Waldorf School

Since 1988, the vision for Westside Waldorf School has been to offer children a school that can be their home from preschool through elementary school - to build a school that provides community for families for a decade or more as their children move through the grades.
Based on Waldorf teachings and philosophy, our curriculum takes a complete approach to learning - "head, heart, and hands" - seeing each child as an individual with innate talents and abilities.

School Notes

Head, Heart, and Hands
  • The Westside Waldorf School curriculum educates the whole child, focusing on developing their cognitive, physical, and artistic abilities.
  • The curriculum is tailored to meet the developmental needs of each grade, ensuring that students receive an age and stage-appropriate education.
  • Our school offers two campuses: The Early Childhood Center in Santa Monica, which offers parent-child, nursery, and kindergarten classes, and the McComb Campus in Pacific Palisades, which operates a full pre-K through fourth-grade program.
  • The tenets of a Westside Waldorf education are:
    • Developmental Curriculum: Waldorf curriculum introduces subject matter intentionally, according to a child's stage of development and readiness to learn.
    • Integrated Arts: Art is woven into every subject, using music, storytelling, drawing, practical crafts, and movement to bring academic subjects to life.
    • Rich Academics: Children are encouraged to develop problem-solving skills using creative thinking and scientific reasoning, rather than memorization.
    • Connection to Nature: Daily life is infused with working with natural materials and meaningful experiences that nurture a lasting connection to nature and a respect for all living things.
    • Social Responsibility: From the earliest grades, children experience world cultures and languages, particiapte in community service, and learn the importance of respecting and helping others.
  • Our regular program hours are 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., with additonal after-school programming available.

We have two children at this school ages 4 and 7 and we could not be happier with our experience. Our children are excited about learning. The subjects are presented to them in a fun way, through stories, images, and movement. When the learning experience includes all of their senses they are so much more likely to retain it. I have never met more loving and devoted teachers and the community is warm and supportive. I can't recommend WWS enough!

Our family recently moved to Los Angeles in August 2022 and our two children, 6 and 4 yrs, joined Westside Waldorf for the new school year. This is a great school that I couldn't recommend enough. The teachers are lovely, the school grounds idyllic, and the curriculum fosters individuality, creativity, and well-rounded growth. We have noticed a remarkable change in our children's happiness and academic interest, in just a few short weeks. My son comes home reciting Chinese now which is wonderful. We highly recommend this school.
