School Notes

    • Balance
    • At Edmund Burke School, we strive for balance among academic rigor, civic engagement, and student well-being. We're a city school for 6th-12th grade, drawing upon the vast resources of our nation's capital and bringing together students who are different from one another in many ways.
    • Access
    • Burke students are diverse, kind, creative, and witty with a penchant for exploration. Our focus on access (and "no cut" policy) means they can pick up a new instrument, try out a new sport, and delve into robotics or creative writing throughout their school years. Students can pursue subjects at a high-level from microbiology research to Spanish literature while having space to explore new interests and enjoy their peers' company.
    • Engagement
    • Our faculty hold students to high expectations, and appreciate them as individual, unique learners. Burke builds civic engagement programs into the school day, rather than require outside service hours, keeping students attuned to the broader world and how they might make positive change within it.

We were so glad when we found Burke for our oldest daughter. She thrived during her seven years there and now is thriving in college. Our younger kid recently started at Burke, and while she is very different than her sister, she is having an equally positive experience. Burke is a hidden gem.

I have two kids who went/are going through Edmund Burke School. One now at a selective top university, happy and well-prepared. We picked Burke because of the strong academics and the commitment to values as articulated in the school's mission. Have never seen an institution so committed to its mission. The school is extremely well run, and the mission guides every decision, including during COVID. This school is a gem and I could not endorse more highly.
