School Notes
- Our multi-age classrooms utilize a wide spectrum of materials designed to meet a variety of developmental levels. By respecting each child's unique contributions to the classroom, we encourage respect for self, fellow beings, and the environment. As we nurture individuals, we create a community of caring learners and peer tutors who strengthen each other and enrich the world around them.
- Our Infant classroom imparts the Montessori method and philosophy, respectingthe absorbent nature of the infant child's mind and guiding each child toward greater independence. The environment is carefully prepared by Montessori Teachers each day to provide a safe and welcoming space for infants to explore the world around them. This age range is a profound stage of development in which a child begins to discover who they are and how they interact with their surroundings.
- Our Toddler Classroom provides a safe and nurturing environment that encourages exploration and discovery while allowing for freedom of movement. Children build speech and language skills, practical life skills, and fine and gross motor skills. They learn social skills and how to apply them in their interactions with other children. Toilet training is also part of the curriculum. This environment is designed to foster curiosity, self-confidence, respect for self and others, and independence.
- Our Early Childhood classroom provides an environment that is carefully prepared tomeet the needs of three to six-year-old children. Our classrooms are equipped with engaging materials for the students to work with, in a beautiful and peaceful setting. Dr. Montessori observed that three to six-year-old children effortlessly absorb information and form impressions and habits that become the basis for all future learning and behavior. They achieve early mastery of concepts and skills in reading, writing, and mathematics through their work with the Montessori materials.
- Our Lower Elementary classrooms are designed to feed and satisfy the immense appetite for knowledge and stimulate the natural intellectual curiosity of this age group. Students are active participants in their learning and the curriculum is personalized to address the needs, abilities, and interests of every individual. Social development and deep learning occur as the older children model and mentor the younger students in rich, collaborative learning experiences.
- Our commitment to meeting each child where they are continues in our Upper Elementary courses. Here, we foster an environment where problem-solving and reasoning skills grow naturally and personal responsibility and self-respect are paramount. Montessori students develop strong learning habits as they grow in academic strength. Deep concentration, interest-driven exploration, and active listening and ordering of thoughts are central at this stage.
- Middle School can be a tumultuous time in an adolescent's life. Fortunately at Elizabeth Academy, 7th and 8th graders find safety and acceptance in a school that guides and challenges them at the same time. The comfort of Montessori multi-age-grouped classroom communities (2-year cohorts) builds confidence in social circles and academic learning groups. Beginning in Middle School, students are led to find their own post-high school path in regard to jobs, college/career, and life goals.
