St.John the Evangelist School (SJE) is committed to academic excellence in the Catholic tradition.
We have a caring staff that assists our youth on their spiritual journey.
Through our program we endeavor to inspire our students to become lifelong learners capable of providing ethical leadership to society.
St. John the Evangelist School is an educational center uniting academic teachings with spiritual growth to build a community which, while diverse, is held together by a set of common beliefs and values.
These encompass our belief in God, family, intellectual development, personal growth and the community at large. SJE provides students with an academically challenging curriculum that emphasizes religion, integrated language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Art, music, physical education, and Spanish language development enhance the curriculum, while technology, initially introduced as a stand-alone subject, now enriches each subject across the curriculum. Students participate in active learning as they utilize manipulatives in math groups, research, investigate, experiment and observe in science classes, and engage in experiential learning opportunities. The dedicated staff at SJE prides itself in supporting students to go beyond basic expectations. Varied instructional strategies meet the needs of each learner and support students as they strive to reach their greatest potential. Teachers and staff at SJE, in their care for the students and for one another, serve as genuine, dedicated role models to the school community. The main focus at SJE is the student body which consists of all faiths and beliefs. The boys and girls in grades pre-kindergarten through eight learn to recognize, ponder, extract, construct, and discuss information, accomplishing as they do so the development of their innate talents and the enhancement of their own personal desire to learn. Students gain recognition for prominent performance at various local, state, and national competitions such as sciatholons, John Hopkins University’s Center for Talented Youth program, Reading Olympics, Archdiocesan Spelling Bee, several essay and poster contests and the 24 Competition. The new Common Core State Standards serve as the basis for the school's core curriculum. Academically challenging, these standards afford teachers the framework not only to teach the curriculum, but extend learning experiences to be rigorous and relevant geared toward meeting the needs of the 21st century learner. SJE students will graduate from 8th grade on the path to being college bound or career ready with a strong Catholic foundation. .
