School Notes

  • Compass Academy, a division of Banyan Tree Educational Services, is a private school for students with mild learning differences. Our two locations are in Point Loma and Oceanside.  Compass Academy students are average or above intelligence, have unique talents and gifts, and do best in a small, nontraditional learning environment. Their needs may include dyslexia, memory, attention, sensory issues, executive functioning, and language processing. Students are taught how they learn best and understand their learning differences, helping them become confident and efficient learners.
  • Compass Academy uses a structured literacy approach to reading and language arts. Our staff is trained in Orton Gillingham methods integrated throughout the curriculum.
  • State standards and state-adopted curriculum prepare students for a more comprehensive school experience following intervention and remediation at Compass Academy.
