My daughter is a current student at OCRS, and both she and I highly recommend this school! My daughter has a less-diagnosed form of ADHD knows as the "disorganized thoughts" type. Her public school at home decided she was too borderline to justify Special Ed services, and her teachers repeatedly told me they believed it to be more of an attitude problem than any learning disorder. After one disagreeable teacher meeting too many, I booked the flights for my daughter and I to go check out the school. As soon as we began to tour the campus, her eyes lit up and she actually asked if she could attend a class! She hated school prior to this, but she spent the entire day in classes and did not want to leave. I was informed this was very unusual but apparently she just needed the right environment. The key for us was that I never told her she had no choice: we were planning to visit a couple of other school campuses and in fact had already tried the summer school program of another boarding school, which she had liked very much, but this one won out. It was so obviously a perfect fit for her that we did not visit any more campuses. Our family had always planned on a private or boarding school for her high school education, and she had known and mostly accepted that for years. She also had always had a say in the final choice: I would not have sent her to someplace she hated after visiting. She got nearly straight As in her first semester there, and is on track now for all As in this semester, her second at OCRS. She is very quick to sign up for activities, trips, etc and so is rarely bored on weekends or down-time. There's lots to do if you sign up! She tells me many stories and histories of other students, and unfortunately, some of them are nowhere near as happy there as she is. Those are the students who claim they had no say in their schooling choice, and/or already had difficult relationships with their parents, who chose OCRS for them. I personally feel that if more parents would do as I did, and present different private/boarding schools as options, then many kids would choose OCRS for themselves. There are only a couple of other boarding schools available to LD/ADD/ADHD students and this one is the most appealing to teens, by far!

From time to time we all wonder how things might have turned out if circumstances and situations had been different. We apply that questioning to private schools.
