We just completed our third year as an SMA family, and it has been everything we had hoped for. When we were choosing a school for our oldest son (entering 3rd), we toured and interviewed at several independent schools. While they all offered an excellent academic program, SMA stood apart from the rest with the warmth of its faculty, the strength of the community, and their emphasis on the school`s core values. SMA has done nothing but exceeds our expectation since we enrolled. They handled learning during Covid in a professional, safe, and data-driven manner - taking all reasonable precautions to keep our children safe and healthy while maintaining a high-quality academic experience. Everyone at SMA - from the President to the faculty and staff - are loving, professional, and extremely responsive. They truly know each child as an individual and work to create the ideal learning environment for each child. The faculty-to-staff ratio is phenomenal, and the campus is consistently evolving to remain at the forefront of technology and education. We truly couldn`t ask for more from a school.
We applied to St. Mary's Academy during the beginning of the covid epidemic and our daughter started 3rd grade last year. Our daughter has thrived while at St. Mary's Academy despite the covid pandemic and has been very happy. Her academic advancement has been excellent and her emotion health has been superb.More importantly, I feel the leadership at St. Mary's has been exceptional during covid. This has trickled down to the entire staff. Decisions have been made to keep kids and staff safe while ensuring the kids education still continues. I think leadership during a time of crisis goes a long way in telling you how well a school operates. I could not recommend a better school.
We have an 8th grade boy and 5th grade girl currently attending St. Mary's Academy. We have been fortunate to attend SMA for 6 years and it has been the best experience for our kids. From day 1 it has been a warm, welcoming environment. We have loved the lower school and both kids have grown into wonderful, kind people. The middle school is equipped to meet all the needs of the changing early teen years. Kids leave middle school with the confidence to become successful in high school. Every teacher and staff member at SMA is caring, fair, and encouraging. With the Covid pandemic, SMA stepped up and came through and has provided an education that was far superior to other schools. The teachers and staff all go above and beyond. Pre-Covid the amount of extracurricular activities and sports in the middle and lower school was great. They encourage kids to play instruments at a young age and try new things. We love SMA and we are so grateful for our children to have attended the best school in Denver.
As a new family to SMA, we can say great things about our experience over the last 4 months at this wonderful school. We have been impressed with how much attention and care has been given to plan a well-rounded curriculum for the modern student. A curriculum that emphasizes strong reading and writing, kindness and compassion, and a healthy intellectual curiosity. The class composition is carefully chosen, and the staff makes sure that they always available to check in with students and their individual progress. The kids and staff are kind, welcoming and inclusive, and our child of color has felt welcome since day 1. The social and emotional issues of childhood are dealt with in a thoughtful way.
I have a daughter attending St. Mary's all-girls high school, and we are grateful to be a part of the SMA community. The high school has exceeded our expectations in nearly every way. It is equally committed to academic excellence and student well-being and personal growth. Girls have the space and support to explore academic interests and personal skills, as well as grow to understand the many ways you can be a leader in a community. Faith, community, justice and respect are the values through which students learn to navigate at this important time in their lives. The faculty is incredibly engaged and supportive. They are well-accomplished in their respective fields, and many have real world, non-academic experience in their fields that they bring to the classroom. Academics are well-rounded and include strong science and math departments. The curriculum is solid and there are ample opportunities for students to work at an advanced level. The high school administration sets the community tone with its competence, commitment, energy and enthusiasm. The principal and vice principal continue to teach and they are an active part of the girls` day to day experience. In addition to the strong academics and supportive community, the school implemented a comprehensive and effective return to school this fall with COVID, ensuring an equal focus on student/faculty safety and academic excellence. The administration and faculty have demonstrated thoughtful decision making, detailed implementation and unending commitment to the students, creating in-class and remote learning programs and continuing to reassess and adjust as circumstances change. Faculty and administration have ensured thoughtful and thorough communications with students and parents during this uncertain time. I highly recommend SMA for any family considering high school.
Both my daughters transferred to St. Mary's from another catholic high school in Denver. St. Mary's is far superior to other high schools. The faculty is well educated and truly teach the content required for college. An "A" at SMA is a true "A". The principal and administration are outstanding-they accept each girl for who they are and help them grow into successful young women. The resources are extensive and each girl is given whatever tools they need to achieve their goals. SMA looks to educate the "whole child" - they strive to help girls not only succeed academically but to also mature in their mental health & wellness. The girls are supportive of one another and respect differences and diversity. St. Mary's is the #1 catholic school for a reason-it's a rare gem where girls can reach their full potential and reach for the stars! Over 100 colleges come each year to recruit SMA girls and the scholarship dollars awarded are impressive. The arts, music, sports & clubs are extensive as well.
This is a beautiful school. The campus and facilities are excellent and the admissions process as well as the communication from different members of staff and teachers was exemplary!
Our children have attended SMA from the very beginning of their academic experience in junior kindergarten (6yrs) and kindergarten (7yrs) now respectfully. The historical excellence, educational expertise coupled with community is unmatched in the state. We feel very fortunate to consider ourselves a part of the SMA family. Our children are engaged through religion, orchestra, sports, language, robotics, destination imagination, the SMA all school play and many other excellent activities. One of the greatest aspects of this school is the experience of being a part of something that makes a difference in our society especially within our local population. The mandate of service oriented activity, of making a difference will last a lifetime with every student who attends SMA! Faith Justice and Respect are values and qualities we all can spend more time practicing. Our community has the unique privilege of watching the young men from the middle school and the ladies from SMA's all girl high school enter into this world and contribute.
When we moved cross country, choosing a school was one of our biggest decisions. From the minute we stepped foot on campus, we felt at home. Our oldest son, who is now a freshman in HS, has found success and confidence in HS that stems from his time at St. Mary's Academy. We currently have a 7th grade son and a 5th grade daughter who love going to school every day, which as a parent is the best gift of all. We have felt "heard" at the school and the Loretto Values of Faith, Community, Justice and Respect are thoughtfully and intentionally woven into the kids' daily routine. We love SMA.
We have two boys at SMA about to complete eighth grade and a daughter who is in sixth grader. We couldn't have made a better decision to send our kids to this middle school. Is it worth the money? YES! It's not ONLY because of the veteran teachers and high academic rigor, but ALSO because of the care and compassion that SMA administrators and teachers put forth towards the social-emotional development of the kids. SMA prepares children for their future according to its four values: Faith, community, justice and respect. These are not simply marketing terms, SMA lives them. Modern coursework is developed with these values at the forefront. A big catch phrase at the school is, "How do we raise our children to be agents of change in today's world?" SMA teaches the children that we are all connected and more alike than different, even with the various religious and cultural backgrounds (of which there are several at SMA). The teachers are committed to student success and emotional health; they care deeply and work tirelessly to develop socially responsible and well adjusted (soon to be) teens and adults. The school pays attention to what's going on outside of the community as well, with service being a piece of the children's educational experience and parent workshops to help us raise them. Lastly, I want to add that even though the HS is all female, the lower and middle school gets BOYS! Our sons are well equipped with the tools they need to be successful and confident as they enter high school. We couldn't have done it without SMA guiding us during the awkward and difficult middle school years.
My boys have been at SMA for three years, additionally, I am a St. Mary's grad (attended K-12th grade). After working in Denver Public Schools, we decided that DPS was not the place for our children and went looking for an independent school. We looked at several schools. Even thought I am an alum, I wanted to see all of the independent options, but SMA truly outshone all of them. Many of the other independent schools gave off a "if you are lucky enough to be chosen by us" vibe, but SMA gave off a "if we (the school) are lucky enough to be chosen by your family" vibe. They sent thank you letters when we visited and followed up several times to see if we had questions or concerns. Now as a parent and member of the Academy Parents board, I work hard to make sure other families feel the community that brought us to SMA in the first place. The staff and faculty is truly open to hearing parents suggestions, complaints and complements. I have been working to bring a garden and more green initiatives to the campus, and I have had no problem having my voice heard and have easily been able to schedule meetings with the president and principals. We could not be happier with our experience at SMA thus far, and look forward to many years at this wonderful school.
We`ve been at Saint Mary`s for 3 three years and are very pleased with the school and community. The academics are rigorous without being overwhelming for our daughter. The teachers and parents are kind and caring.
SMA is a school founded on the principles of faith, justice, community and respect. From education to sports to fellowship the educators at St. Mary`s weave these values into the everyday happenings at our school. The academics are rigorous, but the support from the teachers ensures that each student is getting exactly what he/she needs to find understanding and success. There is a very wide range of sports offered as well as clubs, choir, symphony and drama to name just a few. There is literally something for everyone and all are encouraged to participate and even try something new! The community is welcoming, kind and truly inclusive of all. We are so very happy at St. Marys and thankful that our daughter has the opportunity to attend school here!
