Joan Bannon could be the prototype against which all good coaches are judged. Bannon, a Hopkinton resident for the last 23 years, engineered a spectacular run to a state championship when she guided her ninth-seeded Hillers to six straight wins in grueling postseason play last November.

Dual Valley Conference Jamboree: Whitinsville Christian senior Arleigh McRae, the Central Mass. Division 2 champion two years ago and runner-up last year, tuned up for this year's districts by obliterating the Crusaders' five-year-old course record in Whitinsville.
