    IRON MOUNTAIN - Two special use permits were approved by the Iron Mountain City Council Monday night - one for a local church to expand its facilities and another for a school expansion resulting in changes in the current drop off/pick up procedure. The first permit was to allow the Cornerstone Community Church, located at 617 S. Stephenson Ave.

    IRON MOUNTAIN - Students at Bishop Baraga Catholic School (BBCS) in Iron Mountain will be starting classes on Tuesday, Sept. 8, and the first Mass of the year will be Friday, Sept. 11, at 9:30 a.m. Bishop Alexander Sample of Marquette Diocese will be saying Mass for the students that day at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. This is the Mass of the Holy Spiri.

    By LINDA LOBECK Staff Writer IRON MOUNTAIN - When students return to the former Dickinson Area Catholic School in the fall they will see a new name outside the building and a new principal inside the doors to welcome them back. Bishop Baraga Catholic School is the new name given to the school.

    Stolen car in swamp IRON MOUNTAIN - A stolen vehicle was pulled out of a swamp early Sunday morning after North Breitung Fire Department was notified of the incident. Breitung Township Fire Chief Jeff Iverson said North Breitung Fire Station responded to a car in the swamp Sunday at 6:30 a.m. near of intersection of Swanson Road and Johnson Road off M-9.

    IRON MOUNTAIN - Enough money has been raised for the Iron Mountain Fire Department to purchase two pet rescue masks and oxygen cylinders. A total of $600.07 was raised through the Help Rescue Family Pets (H.R.F.P) fund. Two mask kits and two oxygen cylinders were purchased, one for each fire truck. These items will not only benefit the fire department's pet cause but will also benefit individual
