    It was the battle of the brains at Jones County Junior College Wednesday as high school students from 21 area high schools gathered at JCJC’s Ronald Whitehead Advanced Technology Center to vie for the title of the “No. 1 Math Bowl Team” in the region.

    The Laurel Christian School (LCS) Lions soccer team improved to 2-0 Monday by beating Chamberlain Hunt 4-1. The Lions led 2-0 at the half, and added two more in the second half.

    Brownie Girl Scouts Troop No. 204 conducted a project to remember some of the area’s soldiers serving in foreign countries. Bridget Morgan, troop leader for the group at Laurel Christian School, said the troop began several weeks ago talking about some local people serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.
