The campus exudes a sense of history. Located in historic Red Springs on the campus which was originally Flora Macdonald College, its extensive gardens and grounds surround a building on the National Historic Registry. The past inspires the future, defined by students, ages four to seventeen, who come here looking for a history of their own.

High school senior athletes began signing their national letters of intent and announcing their colleges of choice for the 2010-11 season on Wednesday. It was the first day of the early signing period, which extends through Nov. 18.

The N.C. State basketball program struck big last week when star Class of 2010 big man Luke Cothron offered a verbal commitment to the Wolfpack. Cothron, a 6-foot-8, 205-pound forward playing at Flora Macdonald Academy in Red Springs, is rated as the No. 57 senior in the nation by Scout.com.

Luke Cothron has lived in North Carolina for less than two years, but that was more than enough time for him to decide he wants to play basketball at N.C. State.

Luke Cothron of Flora MacDonald Academy in Red Springs has verbally committed to N.C. State, several recruiting Web sites reported Friday. Cothron, a 6-foot-8, 205-pound power forward originally from Alabama, is rated the 13th-best player at his position in the country, according to Scout.com. read more
