Shady Side Academy has three campuses.  The Junior School, located in Point Breeze, begins at pre-kindergarten and goes up to the fifth grade. Shady Side Academy has three campuses.  The Junior School, located in Point Breeze, begins at pre-kindergarten and goes up to the fifth grade. The Junior School offers small class sizes and two sections per grade which allows for close student to teacher interaction.
A new one-to-one iPad program in fifth grade gives students access to educational apps and the internet for school projects.  Grades K - 4 also have access to iPad's through a mobile lab.  Also new in 2012 is the implementation of Math in Focus, a Singapore Math curriculum, in grades K - 5.
Junior School students at Shady Side Academy learn to use the library as both a resource and a study center.  Whether it is learning to conduct research, borrowing  books, or working on projects using laptops, this space helps students to develop the skills to become independent learners.
The arts are an important element of the Shady Side Academy Junior School experience.  Students being the instrumental program in third grade; Kodaly method and Orff approach are used for music  instruction.  The students perform for parents, grandparents and friends several times a year.
A character education program known as the Shady Side Way is based on the Academy's Five Guiding Principles of Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Kindness and Safety.  Tuesday assemblies help to further build community and introduce global themes of character education.  Here students are supporting Wear A Hat for cancer day.
The school day runs from 8:15 a.m. to 3:05 p.m.  The After-School Explorers program runs until 6:00 pm daily and offers classes, study and play time for students.  A before-school program is also offered where students can be dropped off as early as 7:30 a.m.
