School Notes

  • Wisconsin Academy developed from Bethel Academy, founded in 1899 near Arpin, Wisconsin. The original school was situated on a 200 acre site donated by a lumber company when the first buildings were erected, it was named Woodland Industrial School. Within two years (1902) the school was renamed the Bethel Industrial Academy and was operating 10 grades. Rebuilding after a disastrous fire in 1907, the school shortened its name to Bethel Academy and was affectionately referred to as "The School Upon the Hill." Later Bethel expanded to 12 grade and in 1981 the school held graduation exercises for its first secondary graduating class.
  • In 1943 a special commission established by the Wisconsin Conference report that planned renovations and improvements to the existing school would be inadequate to meet future needs for secondary education in the conference. Subsequently, 540 acres just north of Columbus Wisconsin were purchased for a new school site. The new school renamed Wisconsin Academy opened on this site in September 1949. The original school facility was limited to a new farm, industry, powerhouse, and girls' dormitory, which housed all students, administrative offices and several classrooms. Over the next several years and various construction projects a boys' dormitory, gymnasium, administration building, and staff housing were added. Renovations to the chapel were completed in 1993 and the new cafeteria and computer technology center were completed in 2003. In 2009 new girls' and boys' dormitories were built. Campus improvement is continuous, and so is our commitment to Christian education.

Wisconsin Academy is very well run. The communication with parents is stellar, and the staff are very responsive. We compared this school to other options before enrolling our child. The buildings and classrooms are kept in a very high state of repair, and it is obvious that the school is focused on being the best that it can be for its mission and for the students. We are continually impressed with the caliber of the faculty and staff, and we would highly recommend this school.
