- CLASSICAL EDUCATION: A “Classical Education” refers to the manner of educating children according to the Classical model. This time-tested model is known as the “Trivium”, which refers to the three stages of mental/physiological development with corresponding stages of learning.
- GRAMMER – Concentrates on learning the facts of language, math, history and science. It is characterized by rapid growth, memorization, exposure to facts and information, and categorization.
- LOGIC – Concentrates on making truthful connections, deductions and inferences with all the facts first learned in the Grammer stage. Characteristics include: growing powers of reasoning and observation, deduction, opinion, abstract thought, and recognition of cause and effect.
- RHETORIC – Concentrates on effective expression, meaningful discourse and skillful persuasion. Distinguishing characteristics are: self-expression, personal freedom, the search for meaning and meaningful discourse, persuasion and a need to interact with the surrounding world and society.
- Using this “Trivium” model, an Orthodox Christian Classical Education seeks to form the students in the Faith, leading them ultimately toward union with God. All that is taught is woven together as an integrated whole, to be seen as a revelation of God’s Love and His Sovereign will over creation.
