Longtime Sonora attorney and community leader Victor T. “Vic” Lamb died Wednesday at a Sonora hospital after an 11-year struggle with multiple myeloma (bone marrow cancer). He was 73.

Ethel B. Abbott-Diestel died July 4 at her Sonora home after a long illness. She was 84. Born in Fresno, she lived in Tuolumne County from the age of 3. She graduated from Sonora High School in 1944 and was an apple rancher for many years.

Hilary Callahan, a four-year varsity girls’ player for Sonora High School, will continue her soccer career at California State University, Stanislaus, in Turlock. Callahan, who turned 19 Wednesday, helped Sonora win Valley Oak League and Sac-Joaquin Section championships in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
