School Notes Overview: |
At Stanley, we have a broad and ambitious vision for education. Our goal is to develop in children their full potential - social/emotional, intellectual, creative and physical. Our curriculum reflects this commitment to the development of the "whole" child. Building on the ideas of successful theorists and practitioners - Rousseau, Froebel, Dewey, Piaget and Gardner - BPS has designed a school environment which emphasizes respect for children's backgrounds and ideas and the different ways they learn. Our curriculum allows children to derive meaning and understanding through cognitive, sensory, and kinesthetic modes. Learning is a cumulative, integrating process, rather than one consisting of fragmented, discrete elements. The education of the whole child requires an integrated curriculum in a challenging, experiential, and intellectual learning environment. The "integrated day" means that topics and ideas are introduced in response to daily experiences within the context of the school's curriculum. Exploring these topics may require a combination of academic subject areas, field trips, or community service projects. ...read more
