The little golden shovels stood ceremoniously, their heads buried in a mound of dirt near the newly planted tree. Standing restlessly in front of the 20-foot maple, a group of first- and second-graders sang "Jesus Loves Me" for their parents and teachers. Tom Ruppert began teaching at Peoria's Concordia Lutheran School in the 1960's. He's still there.
