    The little golden shovels stood ceremoniously, their heads buried in a mound of dirt near the newly planted tree.   Standing restlessly in front of the 20-foot maple, a group of first- and second-graders sang "Jesus Loves Me" for their parents and teachers.   The children are students at Concordia Lutheran School in Peoria, and like the new maple tree, they are a symbol of the school's future.

    Tom Ruppert began teaching at Peoria's Concordia Lutheran School in the 1960's. He's still there. On Saturday several generations of students, including a somewhat famous one, came back to salute him before he retires at the end of the school year.
