School Notes:

    • The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School of Greater Washington, founded in 1965, is one of the largest and most prestigious K-12 Jewish day schools in the country with around 1200 students. CESJDS students are nurtured and challenged from the time they enter kindergarten until they graduate. Their individual learning styles are supported, and students are guided to develop their own unique identity while celebrating the diversity of backgrounds and practices that make up the fabric of Jewish life.
    • CESJDS offers an innovative dual curriculum combining the best of both general and Judaic studies. Students learn in classrooms equipped with technology shown to be the most effective tools for 21st century digital learners, including wireless projectors, laptop computers, interactive whiteboards, document cameras and high-tech science equipment. Throughout their years at CESJDS, students also have extensive opportunities to actively explore the arts, athletics and special interests.
    • The foundation of CESJDS' academic program is to inspire a lifelong love of learning. In our Lower School (grades K-6), imaginative teaching methods excite children and address the different ways in which individual students learn. In the Upper School (Middle School, grades 7-8 and High School, grades 9-12), our students become efficient as well as enthusiastic learners, demonstrated by their achievements at CESJDS, in college and into adulthood. In both schools, resource-rich libraries and state-of-the-art technology provide students with the tools to pursue a limitless world of knowledge.
    • During their years at CESJDS, our students acquire impressive academic skills, deepen their love for learning and develop a strong Jewish identity, self-confidence and respect for others — all qualities at the heart of a meaningful, satisfying life.

School Reviews:

  • Recommended March 15,2013 - I absolutely love this school. As a Freshman at JDS, I can honestly say I have had the best experience at the upper school, as well as the lower school. I have become close with every single one of my teachers. Not to mention my fellow students. We are one community. One family. We are united in the fact that we all share a common history and background. It does not matter if you are Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, etc. You are accepted here. And I can honestly say I am extremely happy that my parents sent me to the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in kindegarden. I would not have my excellent GPA, my dedicated teachers, my amazing friends, and the chance to pursue anything I wanted, if I had gone to another school.*-Posted by Student/Alumni *
