After not seeing a spike in student absences due to flu-like symptoms in October, four of Shrewsbury’s schools have now seen an increase in students missing classes with a flu-like illness.

Although nearby Grafton High School shut down earlier this week because of an outbreak of the flu, Shrewsbury’s schools have not seen a spike in students missing classes. In a letter to parents, Superintendent Joseph Sawyer said attendance in Shrewsbury’s nine schools has been “very good” with about 95 to 99 percent of students attending classes each day, or no increase in absenteeism.
