School Notes:

  • The education staff at Cedarcrest School provides a structured, consistent and safe learning environment rich in opportunities for sensori-motor discovery and exploration. The school program is built around New Hampshire's Curriculum Frameworks, with each child's program adapted to reflect the specific goals developed for his/her Individualized Education Program (IEP). The Cedarcrest School student's educational program includes sensory, large motor, fine motor, communication and cognition activities as well as functional life skills and activities of daily living. The program is enhanced by field trips and enrichment activities that complement the curriculum. Each classroom is staffed by a certified special education teacher with the support of several education assistants. Many education assistants also have nursing assistant licensure (LNA) that allows them to provide medical support, as needed, during the school day. Therapy services are part of each child's program. Physical, occupational and speech therapy staff are frequently in the classroom providing therapy one-to-one or in small groups. Nursing support and access to adapted education materials, assistive technologies, and social services are also integrated into each child's program. The staff at Cedarcrest School works closely with each child's family and home school district staff to ensure a continuum of care that best meets each child's individual needs. The staff-to-student ratio is 1:3, but a student's IEP team may determine that he/she requires one-to-one assistance. For day students, intensive nursing support through Cedarcrest Center may also be arranged.
