Montessori School Of Mclean

1711 Kirby Road, Mclean, VA, 22101-0221
The Montessori School of McLean is a fully accredited school that is dedicated to the principles of the Montessori Method.  As Dr. Montessori found that children learn better in multi-age groupings, all classrooms have students of mixed ages: Primary (age 3-6); Lower Elementary (age 6-9); and Upper Elementary (age 9-12).  MSM has 7 Primary classes, 2 Lower Elementary classes, and 1 Upper Elementary class.  The Montessori Method is concerned with the development of the whole child, and allows children to develop at their own pace, and discover their innate love of learning.

School Notes:

  • Sensing the need for Montessori elementary education in the McLean area during the early 1970's, Joan Marie Parasine, former headmistress, started a class for elementary students based on the curriculum developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. Soon thereafter, the close of a nearby Montessori preschool necessitated adding a preschool class to the program. In 1973, the Montessori School of McLean opened with one preschool and one elementary class. Since that time, six more preschool classes have been added and the elementary class has been expanded to include the upper elementary level in addition to the lower elementary classes (first through sixth grade.) Cultural classes were added to the program throughout the years and now include Art, Spanish or French, Music, Drama, Science Lab, Technology Lab, Physical Education, and Writing Workshop. (The cultural program changes from time to time and some programs are limited to the elementary level.) In 1998, a grand celebration was held to commemorate our 25th year. Now, after 35 wonderful years, the facilities have expanded to include a multi-purpose room (gymnasium, stage, gathering space), science and computer lab, and expanded classroom sizes.

Make Summer a Special Time! Make Summer a Special Time!
If you have children in private school, then you are most likely looking at three months, perhaps even longer, which you must fill with activities of one kind or another during the long summer break.

Are You Liable? Are You Liable?
Is your DEL key about to get gaveled? It doesn't matter whether you teach in a public or private school setting. You expose yourself to legal risks every single day on the job.
