Arbor School of Central Florida

Our students at Arbor School have diagnoses such as Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Delays, and other developmental/learning disabilities.
Our school was created to meet the needs of our students through the use of a multi-sensory developmental approach that combines therapies such as occupational, speech, language, music and art with multi-intelligence based academic learning.
We believe that each of our students has the capacity for great things and encourage their abilities through the use of s Socratic questioning approach that promotes reasoning and problem solving, and allows for deeper learning

School Notes:

At Arbor School, we follow a developmental approach and meet each child at his or her level.  Therapeutic, academic, and social goals are written based on the child’s developmental level and includes specific multi-sensory goals to help them progress from that point.  Children with autism tend to develop socially and academically with scattered skills unlike children with other disabilities.  These scattered skills can make it hard, if not impossible, to use a traditional approach.  Potty training may happen at 2 or it may happen at 10; verbal skills may develop or not.  It is our approach to look at each child and find those pockets of delayed or missing skills as well as those skills that have developed.  Goals are then based on helping the child fill in those missing developmental milestones while encouraging and supporting their strengths and talents.
