STAMFORD -- When 12-year-old Kyra Gardner heard the word "staccato," she said she breathed a sigh of relief. She knew how to spell it. Uttering the final vowel, Kyra won the regional spelling bee Thursday at the University of Connecticut's Stamford campus.
