Horizons School
School Notes Overview:
Horizons is a small, diverse school which continually challenges every community member to grow. It demands respect for each individual. At Horizons we develop in students those values and skills that ensure them the maximum number of opportunities. Students learn life skills through active participation in the classroom, school work program, community service, and internships in professional settings. Students gain responsibility, decision making skills, and problem solving abilities be being positively involved in management of the school community. These roles empower students, giving them the knowledge and confidence to take control of personal decisions and act maturely in interpersonal interactions. Mutual education is the basis for teaching and learning in Horizons’ classrooms. This philosophy rests on an underlying respect for each person involved and recognizes the potential for every individual’s unique contribution to the process, which honors diversity. Thus we encourage exploration and participation by giving students greater responsibility. Horizons recognizes peer interaction as an important factor in classroom learning environments, in school governance, and in the development of social skills, leadership abilities, and effective communication. ...
