School Notes

  • Guerin College Preparatory High School, River Grove, will begin the 2009-2010 school year with all of its students carrying a laptop computer to class on a daily basis. Guerin Prep, a Catholic secondary school dedicated to the education and faith development of approximately 615 young men and women, began the one-to-one computing program in the fall of 2007 with the freshmen and sophomore classes. Each fall since a new class has been added to maximize the school's mission to prepare students for success in college and career. This technology, combined with the school's curriculum and a well-versed faculty allows students to explore diverse cultures and new perspectives; write and edit reports, essays and presentations electronically; plan, prepare and present creative multimedia projects; access online tutoring and communicate with teachers and others worldwide. Electronic textbooks for most core classes are loaded on the laptop. In addition to the laptop program, Guerin Prep also has a special program for honors students as well as a structured course of study for students needing special assistance. Guerin Prep is especially proud of its 22-acre campus, which provides fields and facilities enabling all athletes to practice in a safe and secure environment. Sponsored by the Sisters of Providence, Guerin Prep was founded as an all-girls school in 1962 and changed its mission to co-education in 2004. Guerin Prep proudly claims both Mother Theodore Guerin and Holy Cross high schools as its foundation schools. Visit www.guerinprep.org
