Athletics has always played an important role at Fay. Our students compete against other independent schools in a variety of sports, and over the years we have developed friendly rivalries with these teams. Athletics at Fay brings our community together as participants and spectators, maintaining bonds of school spirit and pride.
Fay School is located on a 66-acre campus some 25 miles from Boston in Southborough, Massachusetts, and is the oldest junior boarding school in the United States.
Fay is a “home away from home” for our residential students. Our boarders live in single and double rooms in our safe, comfortable, and well-supervised dorms, which also include apartments for faculty dorm parents who are on hand at all times to offer structure, guidance, support, and friendship.
The Music Department at Fay is strongly committed to the concept of “learning by doing” and recognizes the value of performance participation in every student’s experience. The varieties of course offerings are designed to allow each child to select a medium with which they feel most comfortable.
At Fay, Upper School begins in seventh grade. Students participate in an engaging and challenging academic program that includes English, mathematics, science, history, and world languages.
At the southern end of our campus you’ll find our high ropes courses, which are popular for team building activities and our Outdoor Adventure sport option.
Fay's Primary School curriculum is broad, balanced, and appropriately challenging—in addition to building foundational skills in reading, writing, math, and science, children also take classes in art, music, and foreign languages.
Hands-on learning is integral to the educational experience in the Lower School. Each year, for example, in conjunction with their studies of density and buoyancy, fifth graders participate in a family collaborative where they design and test submersibles that can retrieve an object from the floor of a tank and transport it to the water's surface.
Founded in 1866 and located 25 miles from Boston in Southborough, Massachusetts, Fay School is an independent, coeducational day and boarding school for 475 students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 9.
The School's boarding program (grades seven through nine) serves 120 students from throughout the United States and 19 foreign countries, forming a true multicultural community that is a unique and defining aspect of the School.
Fay's challenging academic program emphasizes the development of solid foundational skills, preparing students for the intellectual demands of independent secondary schools.
Fay's supportive learning environment affords students the opportunity to develop close relationships with the School's caring and dedicated faculty.
In the spirit of our motto, PoterisModoVelis(you can if you will), Fay seeks students who embrace the School's core values of Academic Excellence, Earnest Effort, Honorable Conduct, Dedicated Service, and Wellness of Mind, Body, and Spirit.
Through participation in a wide variety of athletic, artistic, extracurricular, and service activities, Fay students gain a better understanding of their interests and talents, and become actively-engaged, community-minded citizens who take initiative and assume leadershiproles.
Fay is committed to helping each child reach her/his fullest potential in preparation for a productive and fulfilling life.

School Reviews

Immediately after my oldest daughter enrolled at Fay several years ago, her "spark" returned (it had gone out during her years in public school). Her younger brother now attends too. Both children love Fay, love school, and love learning. Their teachers are intelligent, professional, friendly, and encouraging, and their classes are stimulating and challenging. They are truly eager to get to school each day, and they are full of exciting stories from school every night. I appreciate that my children are getting a first-rate academic education, arts education, service learning education, athletics education, and character education -- all while having a fun childhood experience with their friends at Fay. I am very grateful to Fay School. My kids are learning that they have unlimited potential, and that they can achieve anything. As a parent, I could not be more satisfied.
