School Notes:

St. Mary’s Ryken is one of 13 Xaverian Brothers Sponsored Schools in the United States. The years a student spends at a Xaverian school are marked by college preparatory, challenging academics and by many opportunities: the sharing of talents through community service; the forming of lifelong friendships; the camaraderie of athletics; and the partaking in celebrations of faith. To prepare students to take their place in a world that is increasingly global and continually changing, SMR has developed several, unique learning programs: the 1:1 iPad program; SMR STEM 100; and X-PAX.
    • 1:1 iPad program: With an iPad, students have access to interactive textbooks and thousands of educational apps, take notes and organize them on the iPad, and design interactive reports for classroom presentations.
    • X-PAX (The Xaverian Programs of Academic Excellence): Accelerated curriculum concentrations for students who require a more rigorous and advanced course of study. A separate application is required and selection is determined by the student’s high school placement test results and letters of recommendation. Program concentrations: Computer Science; STEM-X; Medicine & Health Sciences; Language Arts & Social Sciences; and International Relations & Global Studies.
    • SMR STEM 100: 100% of St. Mary’s Ryken students are able to participate in the STEM programs offered. We have several community partnerships and a partnership with the Naval Air Station Patuxent River giving our students access to the people and resources of the base.
    • Approximately 99% of each graduating class pursues a higher education at a college, university or military service academy. The Class of 2013 received over $12.6 million in scholarship offers. There is a separate application for merit scholarships in the areas of academics, leadership and fine arts. Please visit the Admissions page on the website for more information and application deadlines. Visit us on Facebook (St. Mary's Ryken), Twitter, YouTube and Pinterest.
