AMS children range in age from 12 months to 12 years of age.
Following the Montessori curriculum, our children study in multi-age groups at four levels: Toddler, Children's House, Lower Elementary and Upper Elementary. By providing an environment rich in learning materials and opportunities, the Montessori teacher enables the child to apply his/her curiosity in the most enriching way possible.
Montessori teacher follows the child in his/her learning, actively.
The teachers are “scientists of child learning.” They observe the children, following them, yet guiding them.

The Amherst Montessori School is a non-profit school serving families throughout the Pioneer Valley. AMS students range from 12 months to 12 years of age. Following the Montessori curriculum, the student body studies in multi-age groups at four levels: Toddler, Children's House and Lower Elementary and Upper Elementary. By providing an environment rich in learning materials and opportunities, the Montessori Guide assists the child in exploring his/her interests in the most enriching way possible. The Montessori Guide follows the child in his/her learning, actively. The teachers are “scientists of child learning.” They observe the children, following them, yet guiding them.

AMS has been in the Amherst community fsince 1970 and has recently completed a beautiful new 12,000 sq.ft. building, which has ample classroom and playground spaces.  We are beginning the accreditation process with AISNE and American Montessori Society.
