The Commons at The Harley School is a “living building” dedicated to education for a sustainable future—an authentic and evolving environment that puts students in the position to lead and link personal responsibility to the resource challenges of our times. The operation of all the systems of The Commons are part of a social curriculum where students strive to achieve a net-zero balance in energy and carbon. The Commons is a place of student debate and problem solving, where year-by-year new ideas are implemented and tested as the authentic challenges of sustainable living unfold for the student body. Harley serves our nation’s community of schools as a leading example of a 21st century education. The Commons houses the Center for Mindfulness and Empathy Education, the Briggs Center for Civic Engagement, The Maker and Project Spaces, and state-of-the art science classrooms.

Rooted in the progressive tradition, The Harley School offers an innovative and demanding program with a balanced emphasis on academic disciplines, the arts, and project-based experiential learning for Nursery to Grade 12 students.

HAC Athletics, Section V. Every student is encouraged to participate in a sport and HAC athletics provides opportunities at 3 different levels: modified, J.V. and varsity. When interscholastic competition begins in Middle School, our teams are all-inclusive, so every student who wants to play can be part of the team.
