As parents, education is the number one priority in our family. Between us, we have graduate degrees from Harvard and MIT, and we spent considerable time researching and visiting private schools throughout Westchester and Connecticut. We toured many well-known schools with beautiful campuses, impressive facilities, and strong reputations. In the end, what stood out most was Thornton-Donovan''s commitment to truly individualized education. In fact, we chose Thornton-Donovan first and then moved nearby because we believed it was the best fit for our son.Our son is academically advanced and was also a little quiet socially. We wanted a school that would challenge him intellectually while helping him build confidence and meaningful friendships. Thornton-Donovan delivered on both. The teachers took the time to understand him as an individual. He received customized homework and assessments almost daily that matched his ability level rather than a standard curriculum. For math and reading, he was often given opportunities to join higher-grade classrooms. What impressed us most was that the school never viewed acceleration as the only goal. The teachers also helped him build confidence, friendships, and leadership skills with his peers. That balance between academic challenge and social development is rare. The after-school STEM program quickly became his favorite activity. We also value the school''s international community and global perspective. What stood out throughout the year was how well the faculty knew him. Not just his classroom teachers, but teachers and administrators across the school knew his name, understood his strengths, and genuinely cared about his success. That level of attention is difficult to find. The parent community has been equally impressive. Families are welcoming, accomplished, and kind. We have not experienced the politics, pressure, fundraising expectations, or social competition that can sometimes exist in private school communities. Most importantly, our son is genuinely happy. At the end of the year, he wrote an essay about how much he loved being at Thornton-Donovan. As parents, there is no stronger endorsement than that.Looking back, choosing Thornton-Donovan over some of the larger and more expensive schools we considered was absolutely the right decision for our family. Thornton-Donovan may not be the flashiest school, but its personalized approach and strong sense of community make it a special place.

Thornton Donovan School was an incredible launchpad for me. My teachers were like a team of superheroes, backing me up and pushing me to reach new heights. The coursework was no joke, but it gave me a huge head start on college prep and life after college. From doing college courses and gaining college credits in high school, to traveling internationally and staying with amazing host families in Venice and Sicily, to helping to rebuild homes with Habitat for Humanity after Hurricane Sandy, to representing Chile with our Model UN club, to contributing to the School newspaper, to performing in the Arts House Cafes, to making my own ceramics with the school's kiln and especially going on Glory Days to immerse myself in the world's religions, I'm deeply filled with gratitude for my journey at Thornton Donovan School!
