Music has been a part of San Domenico School since 1850. Music develops many of the skills needed to succeed in the 21st century, regardless of a student's ultimate career choice. Students learn to set high personal standards, problem-solve both individually and in a team, think creatively, and appreciate the relationship between commitment and achievement.
Students explore art history, principles, theories, and techniques including drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, and design. The courses focus on the development of personal expression, intuitive process, and content in art. At the end of each year students present their works in the student visual and performing arts show Arts in Action.
The mission of San Domenico Athletics is to provide an athletic program that mirrors our Dominican core values and is available to all students. An athletic program which fosters an environment where student-athletes have the opportunity to reach their full potential through athletic competition, character development and teamwork.
At San Domenico, residential life means calling 515 beautiful acres home, surrounded by friends from all over the world, and looked after by specially trained Residential Faculty. Our Upper School Boarding program provides a nurturing environment and safety guidelines that ensure our students are carefully supervised while also feeling a strong sense of community and comfort.
As members of the Bay Area Conference, we play teams from around the Bay Area and compete in a range of sports arranged seasonally, such as Badminton, Basketball, Cross Country, Soccer, Tennis, Volleyball, and IEA Horseback Riding eventing.
San Domenico Stables is a Hunter / Jumper riding program. We teach riders of all abilities, from the first time on a horse to the show ring. Special focus is given throughout on safe horsemanship, responsibility, respect for the animals, and one another.
San Domenico is home to a one-acre working organic garden and the largest solar installation in a Marin County school. Our ecoliteracy program is integrated in our curriculum with environmental education, engagement, and stewardship at the core of who we are and what we do.
Our small classes often resemble a college seminar: students and teacher grappling with ideas, sparking new insights, caught up in the give and take of reasoned arguments.
Founded in 1850 as California’s first independent school, San Domenico enrolls boys and girls in grades Pre-K through 12 from around the San Francisco Bay area and around the world.
We offer both day school and boarding school options for our Upper School students at our campus in San Anselmo, California.

School Notes:

At San Domenico, we believe that what students do with their education is as important as their academic performance. Every day we encourage our students to not just study, but also to reflect on their learning, find their purpose, and celebrate in community, because an exceptional education, where values and academics join together, creates more than just great students—it develops great people.

School Reviews

I graduated from San Domenico several years ago and was extremely well prepared not only academically, but also as a person. I will always treasure the relationships I had with the teachers at San Domenico. They are not only dedicated to their craft, but they really care about each student and always encouraged us to get outside our comfort zone and try new things! High points for me were the basketball program, the music program and the visual arts. Awesome school!!!

I have been in many different private schools, but there is nothing like San Domenico. I consider this school very special because it has students and teachers from all around the world, which is great because we get to know many different cultures and even learn other languages. SD is a community that not only has the best teachers and coaches, but also has very nice and smart students that are always willing to help each other. Academics are great, students get in the best colleges in the United States and other countries like China, England, Mexico, Canada among others. But what I enjoy the most in San Domenico is the art and athletic programs that are offer to every student. I like them because they are very organize with flexible schedules and also really fun.

Working at San Domenico has been one of the best experiences. It''s an outstanding school community and students receive an incredible education. The focus of the whole student is evident from their pre-k program all the way through the high school. Truly the best of the best!
