School Notes:

  • Alexsander Academy is a small, fully accredited, non-profit school for students with learning differences.
Alexsander Academy provides academically rigorous and academic remediation programs that focus on the student as an individual learner.
The goal with ALL students is to give them the skills and self confidence they need to reach their full potential.

    Our Students:

The students at Alexsander Academy are children with learning differences that have struggled to learn in more traditional settings.
The setting may have been a larger school environment or a smaller one. Whatever the setting, the student’s difficulty learning shows he or she may need a program that focuses on how each student learns as an individual in order for that student to be successful.

Students at Alexsander Academy may also have been in a more one on one or a home school setting and are ready or desire the opportunity to learn in a classroom environment but do not yet have the skills to be successful in a larger classroom.
For these students Alexsander Academy provides a bridge into a group learning environment.

    Our Programs:

    Elementary/Middle School

These classrooms serve students in grades 2nd – 8th in an academically focused, full day program.
The school day runs Monday – Friday from 9:30 – 2:30.
Before and after care as well as after school tutoring is available.
Students work on math, language arts, reading comprehension and fluency, science and social studies.
The students also participate in music, art and social skills classes. The academic curriculum is based on the standards set by The Georgia Department of Education but is adjusted to the needs of each individual student.
Maximum class size is 8 students with one certified teacher per classroom.
Students in these classrooms are no more than three grade levels behind and are able to be successful in a small group classroom environment.

    Middle School/High School remediation program
**Ages 13-16 for the 2012-2013 school year**

These classrooms will serve students ages 13 -21 who are in need of academic remediation and real world application of skills for a successful transition toward being an independent working adult.

The school day runs Monday – Friday from 10:00 – 2:30.
Before and after care as well as after school tutoring is available.
Alexsander Academy accepts the NOW waiver for payments of before and after care. Students concentrate on building and expanding reading and math skills such as fluency, comprehension, and math applications. Social studies and science skills are focused on real world experience and application.
The students also participate in music, art and social skills classes. The maximum class size is 5 students with one certified teacher per classroom.
Students in these classrooms must have basic 1st grade reading and math skills and be able to be independent in a classroom of 5 students and one teacher.
Students who need a greater level of support will be considered on a case by case basis and are subject to additional fees to pay for staff to provide that support.

Parents are intricately involved in the process at Alexsander Academy.
The staff strongly believes that students can only meet their full potential when the school staff, the parents and the student work together and are on the same page as much as possible.

**Alexsander Academy is not a one on one program and is not staffed for students with aggressive behaviors.
School staff can recommend programs that are more appropriate for students that need a greater level of support than can be provided in this environment.
Parents are required to sign an acknowledgement that they agree with all of the school policies at Alexsander Academy.**

    Admissions:

School tours are held weekly at 3:30pm.
An appointment is needed to ensure your spot on tour days. Students are welcome to join their parents on tour days. After the school tour, parents may also schedule a day to observe a class in progress.

Application paperwork can be found on the website or obtained in the school office.
The application fee is $350.00 and includes formal and informal educational testing.
The prospective student will meet with school staff for informal placement testing.
The application paperwork should be filled out completely and the application fee must be paid the day of testing.
This testing is designed to allow the staff to get to know the student and is done in a relaxed format.
We encourage parents to provide any information they can to help staff in making the student feel as comfortable as possible. After the testing is done, the parents and the child will be interviewed to determine if placement at Alexsander Academy is a good fit for the student.
All pieces of the admissions process will be taken into consideration when making this decision.

Please add 3% for credit card payments to cover the fees that the school is charged by merchant services.

Please visit the website of the Student Support Organization we work with, Georgia Student Support Organization, at www.georgiasso.com or contact the school office for more information.

Alexsander Academy does not require parents to fundraise but does offer an incentive to parents who are looking for other ways to reduce tuition costs and are willing to do fundraising activities.
Alexsander Academy will take 1/3 of all fundraising/donation money parents bring into the school off of their child’s tuition.
So if parents raise $3,000 for Alexsander Academy, their child’s tuition will be reduced by $1,000.

THIS INFORMATION APPLIES TO THE 2012-2013 SCHOOL YEAR AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
PLEASE CONTACT SCHOOL STAFF FOR ANY QUESTIONS.
