    PEABODY and mdash; Bishop Francis X. Irwin has retired as spiritual head of the North Region of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston. His resignation, effective Oct. 20, has been accepted by Pope Benedict XVI, the archdiocese's newspaper announced last weekend.

    The older gentleman hit earlier this month by a car driven by a 17-year-old Danvers High School student on College Pond Drive died Monday, Sept. 28, from injuries sustained in the accident.

    DANVERS and mdash; The 65-year-old Danvers man struck by a car driven by a 17-year-old neighbor on Sept. 10 died Monday. Michael E. Colman, who lived at 10 College Pond Drive, had been in a Boston hospital since he was struck by a car while walking on his street, a residential dead-end road off Summer Street near St. John's Prep School.

    DANVERS and mdash; A line in a college recommendation letter from St. John's Prep foretold the role Danvers native Michael Delaney now plays as New Hampshire's newest attorney general. "Mike is conscientious and most deeply committed to principles," read the Oct. 17, 1986, letter penned by Bill Mackinson, who taught Delaney in a freshman religious-studies class.
