Eric Yang, who attends Griffin Middle School in The Colony finished first among the 104 competitors from throughout Texas. He will receive $100 and a trip to Washington, D.C., for the National Bee on May 19-20.

The Hurst-Euless-Bedford school district hosts the annual competition at the Pat May Center in Bedford. The 49 other states, plus the District of Columbia, are also holding their state bees today.
