Notes for Prospective Students

Application: Parents submit a completed application along with a non-refundable $50.00 application fee. Transcripts: Transcripts are required for all students entering grades one through eight. Parents submit a Records Release Form to their current school so transcripts may be sent to Chesapeake Academy. For those applicants interested in Pre-Kindergarten 3 & 4, any documentation from a day care program or preschool program that your child has been enrolled is required for review by the Academy prior to a final admission decision. Recommendations: Confidential teacher recommendations are required for students entering grades One through Eight. For those applicants interested in Pre-Kindergarten 3 & 4, or Kindergarten (if applicable), any documentation from a day care program or Preschool program that your child has been enrolled in is required for review, as well as a written recommendation from the program director or teacher. Parents request the recommendation form be completed by their child's teacher (Grades One through Eight), and provide this individual with a stamped envelope addressed to the Office of Admission at Chesapeake Academy, so this form can be returned confidentially and promptly. Admission Assessments: Admission assessments for all applicants in grades Kindergarten through Eight is required, and supports proper connection to the School's curriculum and programs. An assessment for Kindergarten involves readiness skills, while an evaluation for Grades One through Eight includes math and language arts (spelling, reading comprehension, grammar, etc.). School Visit: Students applying for admission and their parents/guardians are expected to visit Chesapeake Academy for a meeting with the Director of Admission, a campus tour, and, when possible, spend a few moments with the Head of School, as part of the application process. Students in Grades One through Eight spend a day at Chesapeake Academy.  Students interested in admission to Kindergarten spend a portion of a day while Pre-Kindergarten 3 & 4 visit, though only for a portion of the day. Pre-Kindergarten 3 & 4: Applicants MUST be at least three-years-old by September 30th of the entering year, and be fully potty-trained. Waiting Lists: Some grade levels will at times be at a maximum enrollment, and therefore, applicants for these grades may be placed on a waiting list. It is critical for applicants to complete all aspects of the admissions process to ensure a timely admission decision when appropriate. Enrollment: The Admission Committee reviews applications on a rolling basis throughout the year, including applications for mid-year enrollment. Upon acceptance, the School issues an enrollment agreement to the parents or legal guardian. A signed enrollment agreement, accompanied by a 10% deposit reserves a place for the student. The balance of tuition is due by July 1st of the entering academic year, and payment plans are available for your convenience. Mid-year enrollees are asked to have the balance of tuition paid prior to the first day of enrollment.
