Notes for Prospective Students

At Gateway Academy, we seek students who: * Are at Grade Level or Above; Have a diagnosis of High Functioning Autism. Desire a college preparatory curriculum that emphasizes academic, social, and emotional development. * Demonstrate a discrepancy between IQ and achievement on standardized assessments. * Struggle with homework overload or large classroom settings. * May have experienced bullying, teasing, or social isolation. * Show motivation-by both student and parents-to become an active member of the Gateway community. * May present with one or more of the following diagnoses: Level 1 Autism Spectrum Disorder ADHD/ADD Anxiety Depression OCD Social/School Anxiety * Present no significant behavioral problems. Any behavioral concerns must be manageable with verbal redirection and without physical intervention. Areas of Concern: * The following issues require a more detailed interview process and may result in denial of admission: -History of physical aggression (not solely triggered by environmental stressors). Intermittent or unpredictable behavior problems. Poor self-regulation requiring intensive 1:1 support. -Limited ability to work independently. -History of drug abuse or addiction. -Assessments & Evaluations All evaluations-including Psychoeducational, Neurological, Speech & Language, Occupational Therapy, and Standardized Educational Testing-must be current within three (3) years. If not current, families must commit to obtaining updated evaluations prior to admission or at the three-year renewal mark.Testing may be scanned and emailed to: rsweet@gatewayacademy.us. * Vision and Hearing Tests must be completed yearly and are the responsibility of the family. * Financial Aid & Scholarships: Empowerment Scholarships are accepted. State Tax Organization Scholarships are accepted.
