On Saturday, January 20th Renaissance School, in partnership with Jefferson-Madison Regional Libraries, is hosting a workshop specifically for parents as they look forward to preparing their college-bound child for success in life after high school. The workshop, The Road to College: A Workshop for Parents, is open to all parents of students who may be new to the process of college counseling in high school. Topics to be included: finding the right high school fit for your child middle school to high school transition the college counseling process and what to expect how to help your child achieve success in high school with the greater goal of college successAccording to the Davidson Institute, "-colleges are receiving record numbers of qualified applications each year, so college entrance requirements continue to be ramped up. Therefore, the success of a student's high school experience has become essential to keep postgraduate doors open. To assure a successful high school experience, many factors need to be considered to determine the 'best fit' for a particular student." (http://www.davidsongifted.org/Search-Database/entry/A10476)Sara C. Johnson has developed one of the most successful college programs in the area. Johnson`s unique approach to college counseling has earned her students an impressive $125,000/student average in scholarships and grants. Additionally, Johnson was featured in US News & World Report`s 2014 Best Colleges edition. Johnson says, "Choosing a secondary school is one of the most important decisions a family will make. Considerations such as academic programs, extracurricular activities, college counseling, and quality of faculty are all keys to making high school a success." Johnson was born in Louisville, KY and graduated with honors from Indiana State University where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a double emphasis and a minor in art history. She continued her studies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she earned a Master of Fine Arts degree. The Road to College: A Workshop for Parents is free and open to the public. The event will be held from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm at JMRL-Central Branch, 201 East Market Street.
