For Alex Crecco, the prospects were exciting after the 2006 high school football season. He played freshman football for Ipswich High School that fall, and the varsity team won an Eastern Mass. Division 3A Super Bowl crown. Crecco, a running back/linebacker, was good enough to earn a spot on the varsity the next season, his sophomore year.

PEABODY and mdash; Bishop Francis X. Irwin has retired as spiritual head of the North Region of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston. His resignation, effective Oct. 20, has been accepted by Pope Benedict XVI, the archdiocese's newspaper announced last weekend.
