Forest, Field and Farm Kindergarten Open House - A Walk in the WoodsParents and children are invited to experience Kimberton`s 430 acre campus and meet with teachers as we visit the animals, tour the garden building and learn more about our outdoor kindergarten program as we walk along the French creek. Registration requested but not required. In the Forest, Field, and Farm Kindergarten, the "classroom" is the school`s breathtaking 430-acre campus, with its rolling hills, farm and gardens, conservation trail, bubbling creeks, and wooded areas. Held outdoors, this program encourages children to play, explore, and immerse themselves in the natural environment - giving them the opportunity to use their imaginations, develop critical thinking skills, stretch their muscles, and hone their motor skills. The curriculum grows out of the ever-changing environment. The children are busy working in the garden, observing animals, witnessing changes in the land, crafting, and playing in nature`s playground. These kinds of activities develop a deep sense of wonder about the natural world and lay the foundation for scientific inquiry. Sticks, acorns, leaves, and other treasures become props for imaginative play and implements for counting, sorting, and pattern-recognition. Storytelling, songs, and poems provide a rich, language-based experience. Each day, children connect with the Earth, themselves, and others through: Seasonal storytelling and song Exploration of animal habitats Nature crafts and handwork projects Water and sand play Farm chores: tending the garden and caring for animals Observation of the natural world Physical movement: climbing, hiking, swinging, rolling, running and more!Kimberton Waldorf School has a mixed aged kindergarten program for children 4-6. A Kimberton education looks different because it is different. Everything we do at Kimberton Waldorf School matters because it supports healthy development of children and promotes the foundation for our graduates to become creative and capable individuals, ready to lead meaningful lives in a complex world. The indicators of learning should not be confused with the end goals of education, and we need to not mistake test performance as a learning outcome. Emphasis onthe breadth of skills and opportunities that we value in childhood and in adulthood provides a reminder that education needs to be designed to produce holistically developed learners who are well-equipped to navigate the challenges of life in the 21st century. We develop analytical thinkers with imaginative minds capable of producing life-changing ideas. Our students build capacities and skills of creativity, resourcefulness, collaboration, perseverance, integrity, and ethical understanding. How we teach this matters. Every aspect of Waldorf education is intentional and planned. Why we teach this way matters. At each stage of child development, students are challenged, capacities are built, foundations are set, and opportunities are given. When we teach things matters. True learning is a process of discovery that engages the whole human being. Instead of passively receiving information, Waldorf students are involved in a dynamic process of exploration and experience, both of the world and of themselves. Join us at our Open House and find out more about Waldorf Education.

Rosebud Garden Play and Story Hour: Rosebud Garden represents a special part of the early childhood program at Kimberton Waldorf School for children ages 18 months to four. Rosebud Garden is situated in an old farmhouse, built in 1845, with a deep history in our farming community. It has two separate, but adjoining, homelike classrooms filled with beauty and order. Our curriculum is play based and encourages unstructured child initiated play which promotes healthy physical development in a safe environment. We build on a foundation for deep lifelong literacy through storytelling, puppetry, finger plays, singing, painting and poetry. Outside, we have gardens for growing herbs and vegetables, a cob oven for baking, a chicken coop where we keep our brood, and a garden shed for storing play things and gardening tools. When visiting Rosebud Garden, it`s common to find children playing in the sand box, climbing a tree, meandering through our community-built forest or pushing a child-sized, wooden wheelbarrow. Come and experience a little bit of our Rosebud Garden program during a special Saturday morning play and story hour led by our preschool and parent-child teachers. Registration is requested but not required.

Discover the High School The teenage years are a time of questions. High School students ask: What can I learn from the world around me? How has the world around me come about? Why does injustice exist? Who do I need to become to make a difference in the world? Students move from the concrete world of observational comparisons into the critical world of conceptual analysis and synthesis. A new questioning about life and the personal search for truth mark the beginning of the high school years. Our high school curriculum is designed to give young people resources for their inner journey of development. What was earlier approached through imagination and pictures is now approached through analytical thinking. What was experienced with great intensity of feeling can now be reexamined with newly awakened faculties of personal judgment and critical thought. Teachers craft experiences which sharpen students` growing intellectual capacities and strengthen their powers of judgment, while students take on more responsibilities for their own education. The science and math curricula train students` capacities for clear thinking and observation to enable them to judge what is true. The humanities allow the students to apply their newfound thinking capacities to moral questions as well as to quests for meaning, freedom and individuality. The arts provides balance and develop powers of observation, while also allowing content to be experienced through other parts of their being, not just through the intellect. The High School at Kimberton Waldorf School provides a rich, rigorous, academic experience for students. We will visit each grade during main lesson to experience a bit of our academically diverse high school curriculum. We will have an opportunity to hear about some of the unique experiences that our students participate in, including international exchange, outdoor education, social service, college counseling, vocational practicum and electives.
