Overview
We are a progressive school, in that we value the idea that education is something to be actively pursued rather than passively received.
When students learn by doing rather than being told, they develop confidence, deeper understanding, and resolve.
Our continued commitment to Ms. Hinton's fundamental beliefs, and our deliberate choices for our community and curriculum have put Putney at the leading edge of education in America.
Vermont Academy is a small college preparatory boarding and day school serving grades 9 through 12 plus a postgraduate year.
Founded in 1876, Vermont Academy provides experiential education for the whole student, including exemplary academics, athletics, and arts.
Students are encouraged to explore, to tinker, and to innovate.
They are free to become their best selves: puck-shooting painters, math whizzes turned thespians, fashion-designing equestrian chemists, all-AP snowboarding cellists.
Students benefit from a 6:1 student-faculty ratio, a robust advising program, top-notch learning skills support, and over 120 courses. Twenty-five percent of students are international, with 13 countries represented.
