Youth Chance High School’s mission is to help our students learn and grow in a manner consistent with their individual needs in order to thrive in a complex society. We enable our students to become literate, self-motivated, lifelong learners by providing a multi-faceted, multi-cultural student-centered environment which will inspire students to set and achieve high academic and behavioral standards, develop and work in healthy collaborative relationships within the school and in their communities and gain an understanding and appreciation of the connection between mind, body and spirit. With that in mind, our programs address literacy and learning in an innovative way and provide high standards of excellence for the mastery of basic skills. We encourage reading, writing, the arts, and critical thinking as powerful communication tools in when addressing important social issues such as social equity, justice, diversity (ethnic, gender and socio-economic) and environmental awareness. We serve at-risk youth ages 16 – 21 who have been expelled or have dropped out of the public school system. The average student enrolling in Youth Chance High School performs below the 5th grade level in math and reading. Moreover, 90% of the students we serve are considered low-income.
