Literacy is front and center at Mounds Park Academy. In conjunction with our school`s annual Book Festival Week, this event is a wonderful time for you and your child to enjoy books and literacy-related activities with other children and parents, while learning more about MPA. This event features local author, Megan Maynor, who recently released the second book featuring the adventures of Ella and Penguin. Hear about Megan`s journey to become an author, how the idea of the book and sketches of the characters developed, and of course, listen as Megan reads her books. Children will be front and center during story time and will enjoy a fun craft activity related to the books. All attendees are welcome to peruse our Library and Book Festival events.This event is most appropriate for children ages 26 (and their parents) and will include a brief introduction to our prekindergarten and kindergarten programs. Teachers and admission staffers will be on hand to answer questions and snacks will be provided for all attendees.

Join TPT and MPA for this free, family, STEAM event on Sunday, September 17 on MPA's PreK-12 campus! MPA believes that learning should be hands on, interdisciplinary, and FUN for all ages-Sid the Science Kid agrees! This event is open to the public with activities geared toward children ages three to six. All families are welcome.Families will rotate through 3 stations: Station 1: STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) activities planned and led by expert faculty; Station 2: An opportunity to meet and have your photo taken with Sid the Science Kid and play in MPA's gym; Station 3: A nature walk experience around one of MPA's outdoor learning labs, the native prairie and campus pond. Arrival times are staggered and space is limited to maximize the experience for our young visitors. Register for the arrival time that works best for your family and plan to be on campus for an hour and a half. Enter at the north entrance. Mounds Park Academy is inviting current students in first grade through ninth grade to bring a friend to MPA for a special day of learning and fun!Visitors will follow a typical school day schedule, attending all of the regular classes with their friend. Teachers will take the time to introduce visitors in each class and help them feel very welcome. The visitor's day begins at 7:45 AM at the South Entrance where the MPA student and the visiting student should check in. The visitor's day ends at 3 PM. It does not include Panther Club/Den or afterschool activities/sports. If possible, current families should help the visiting family with transportation to/from school. Visiting students are welcome to ride MPA buses, but not District 622 buses. Passes may be obtained from the Office of Admission. Friends should be close to the same grade and each child may only bring one friend.
