School Notes

  • The Newman School early childhood program is a child centered program that draws from the philosophies of Reggio Amelia Schools, Montessori, and Creative Curriculum.  In merging the three philosophies, we have created a classroom community that is a place of discovery.  We provide each child with the opportunity to learn in his/her own way in an environment of order and structure.  We introduce materials and the "works" the children engage in are open-ended.  Children have time and space to learn and explore.  As a class we go on a journey together learning about our community, Judaism and how each individual`s essence strengthens our whole community.
  • Preparing children for academic success as they grow and develop is not about teaching them to recognize numbers or letter.  It is about exploring their environment, loving hearing stories, drawing and painting, working with clay, enjoying listening to and making music, developing their confidence at age appropriate tasks, becoming increasingly independent, developing dexterity and coordination, learning to appreciate themselves and those in their world, to recognize beauty, taking pleasure from playing and working together, from sharing, giving and accepting.
  • Children learn Hebrew in an immersive environment, learning songs, stories, and communicating about daily experiences.  They celebrate Jewish holidays and learn songs and stories appropriate to the calendar.
