And we challenge them with an academic program that fuses adolescent interests with traditional disciplines and respects the variety of their talents and motivations.

  • Parkmont School is a small independent school serving 65 students in grades 612. Our unique academic program and warm, supportive culture have been helping young people find success in school since 1972.Parkmont's student body is a blend of traditional learners who seek a smaller environment, students who have some anxiety or ADHD, students who have had work-completion issues or school avoidance, neurodivergent students who need more support socially and/or academically, and students who have had some struggles at home and need a lower-stress school setting.Parkmont attracts talented, creative faculty who love their jobs and their students. They work across all grade levels and get to know their students well, and their students recognize that they have trustworthy and compassionate guides. Our academic program combines individuated classroom learning with extensive and varied experiences outside the classroom. These include frequent academic field trips, outdoor adventure trips, camping trips, and classes that incorporate travel to such places as Alaska, the Grand Canyon, and the Everglades. Upper School students complete 180 hours at an internship each year, and Middle School students participate in chaperoned group internships. We organize the school year into five seven-week sessions and offer a pared-down daily schedule. Students take only three academic classes per day, including a two-hour Main Lesson. Offerings for Main Lessons range from Anatomy and Physiology to Writing and Media Studies. The offerings change each session, so students are able to get a fresh start and begin a new class every seven weeks.
