School Notes

  • Since 1957, St. Luke`s Episcopal School has been recognized as one of the finest schools in Baton Rouge. Our busy campus, with its graceful mixture of old and new buildings and beautiful trees and flowers, provides the ideal setting for learning and discovery. The atmosphere at St. Luke`s is warm and friendly because we believe when students feel secure and accepted, there is no limit to what they can achieve. The early school years set the stage for a child`s lifelong love of learning, and our small class sizes allow teachers to quickly recognize each child`s special gifts and needs. We offer a wide variety of enrichment classes including liberal, visual and performing arts, foreign language, and technology. We also offer after-school activities and clubs. Our athletic program offers various fall, winter and spring sports to students in 5th through 8th grade. At St. Luke`s, no child blends into the crowd, and no child struggles alone. We are a school of many different children and we welcome all children regardless of race, religion, gender, national or ethnic origin. We are committed to teaching, helping, challenging and nurturing every child, every day.

St. Luke's is amazing! The environment is so friendly and warm. The moment you step foot on campus, you will be welcomed with open arms. The teachers are incredible, the academics are top-notch, the electives are impressive, and the administration is insightful. Students at St. Luke's are encouraged to think critically, question thoughtfully, and care unconditionally. We are lucky to have such an exceptional school.

I cannot say enough great things about St. Luke's and the Pre K-8th school model. I have had two kids go through St. Luke and in my 13th year as a parent there. I have been extremely pleased with academic, spiritual, and social support and teachings. My oldest is now in high school and was well prepared for a much larger school, both socially and academically. He has maintained a 3.7 GPA with many honors and A/P classes as part of his schedule. Not only does St. Luke offer outstanding academic curriculum, they provide and nurture our children's spiritual foundation and development. They reinforce strong character building values with our children; how to be respectful, compassionate. The older kids are given an opportunity to serve as big buddies/mentors to younger kids. Part of their duties in that capacity is sitting with them in a chapel to help them and serve as role models to them. They also have a close partnership with a nearby school for children with communication and learning challenges. Our kids are able to attend chapel with them, a partner in various activities and projects throughout the year. The faculty and staff are great with communication and engaging parental involvement. They work together closely to insure our students’ curriculum stays on the leading edge of what's available and proven effective.

From the moment I set foot on campus for a tour, I felt like my kids would receive a great education as well as receive love and kindness from their teachers, faculty & Staff. I have not been disappointed. My kids have greatly benefited from the hands-on learning approach in all grades and their teachers really take the time to help each one understand the concepts or content if there's a struggle. My kids feel safe, loved, have fun, and half the time don't even realize they are learning every day they are at this school. As a parent, I couldn't ask for more!

Our family's experience at St. Luke's has been wonderful. The faculty's dedication to our three kids and their development is clear every day. I recommend this school to anyone looking for a place that will bring out the best in their children.

We have two kids at St. Luke's and are more than pleased. Smaller class sizes and a nurturing environment allow the students to learn and grow at their pace and become confident in their abilities. Pre K through 8th grade model allows students unique leadership opportunities. The St. Luke's Sharks also offer opportunities for kids interested in athletics and the arts. We're excited for what the future holds for our kids.

My son has been at St. Luke's since Pre-K and is now in the 5th grade. Each year we think we couldn't possibly get a teacher that we loved as much as the prior year, but even though they all have different teaching styles, we love them all. We love the nurturing environment and spiritual education that St. Luke's provides. We love the fact that the Middle School students are the leaders on campus and don't have high schoolers to compare themselves to. They can get through that awkward stage of adolescence in a safe environment. He is excited to start Middle School next year!

Both our girls finished St. Luke's and have gone on the high school and their success is a direct result of their time at St. Luke's. The wonderful faculty, small class size, educational value, sports programs, arts, and Christ centered atmosphere make St. Luke's the gem of Baton Rouge. I really can't speak highly enough of how much we love St. Luke's and how beneficial it was for our girls.

St. Luke's has been a blessing to our family. Our 2nd grader and PreSchooler have flourished in this setting. I''m especially thankful for the concern that has been given to our 2nd grader in regards to her struggles with ADHD. Everyone is so accommodating to her needs. We truly feel like we are part of a huge family there. I wouldn't trade St. Luke's for the world!

Our family loves St. Luke's. I have a 1st and 5th grader enrolled, we have been there since my oldest was in PreK. I''m a firm believer in the PreK thru 8 model...keeps them from growing up too fast. Outstanding teachers and faculty, great variety of music, art & sports programs. I also love the low student / teacher ratio. My kids are in a safe, nuturing and academically challenging environment. St Lukes kids typically get their pick of schools and transition well into 9th grade.

St. Luke's has been our school of choice for eight years. Both of my children started in Pre-K and are currently in 6th and 3rd grades. St. Luke's has been nothing less than outstanding. Both my husband and I, as well as our children, have made lifelong friends from the families we have met at St. Luke's. The caring family atmosphere combined with the academically challenging environment have made every year a fantastic experience. My oldest began middle school at St. Luke's this year, and we could not be more pleased with the appropriateness of the level of responsibility placed on the middle schoolers in addition to their challenging cirriculum. and learning to be the leaders of the school.

My family has been a part of the St. Luke's Episcopal Day School family for almost 10 years. The faculty and staff at St. Luke's are an extension of our family. They create a school environment that is safe, nurturing, supportive, spiritually driven, and academically challenging. The teachers are exceptional in providing rigorous instruction in a warm environment conducive to learning. They are sensitive to the various learning styles of each of my children, and they strive to maximize their potential.
