We've placed our children at Providence since 2002, and taught since 2006, for several reasons: the classical method's effectiveness at training a broadly agile mind, the spontaneous fellowship among parents, the socioeconomic diversity, the quality of the arts as content not just craft, and the low cost. The true mark of intelligence (and a very practical life skill) is asking the right questions on unfamiliar subjects, and Providence's classical emphasis on logic equips students to ask and answer the right questions and detect the wrong questions; the other part of classical equips students to express themselves not just persuasively but with grace and winsomeness, as borne out by numerous debate and sportsmanship awards and arts programs that give a reason for art. As to test results, Providence has had two National Merit Scholar qualifiers most of the last 10 years from graduating classes between 7 and 15 students. The greatest intangible is the unprompted sense of caring community present among parents and students. Low tuition not only is its own reward, but increases socioeconomic diversity, allowing single mom families to offer their children this learning experience and blessing other students with a more down-to-earth set of friends and values than might be found at other private schools, plus cultivating character of efficiency, prioritizing, resourcefulness, and contentedness among students.
