School Notes
- Acton Academy Eastside Seattle is a learner-driven private school serving learners from kindergarten through high school on Seattle's Eastside. We believe an exceptional education develops strong academic foundations alongside the character, confidence, and capability young people need to take ownership of their lives and live with meaning and purpose.
- Learners spend their mornings building mastery in reading, writing, math, and other core skills through personalized, self-paced learning. They set goals, track their progress, and demonstrate mastery before advancing, allowing them to move at a pace that reflects what they know rather than simply how much time they have spent on a subject.
- Afternoons are dedicated to hands-on, interdisciplinary Quests that challenge learners to solve meaningful problems, create original work, collaborate with others, and apply what they have learned. Experiences may include science and engineering challenges, entrepreneurship, historical simulations, public exhibitions, and work for real audiences and customers.
- Our mixed-age studios include Spark, Explorer, Makers, and Launchpad. Each studio is designed around the developmental needs of its learners, with increasing levels of independence, responsibility, and leadership as they grow. Rather than relying primarily on lectures, Guides use Socratic questions, challenges, feedback, and clear systems to help learners think critically and take greater ownership of their education.
- Daily Socratic discussions, goal-setting, reflection, studio responsibilities, and peer accountability give learners repeated opportunities to practice communicating clearly, working through challenges, making thoughtful decisions, and contributing to a strong community. As learners grow older, real-world experiences such as entrepreneurship and apprenticeships further connect learning to life beyond the studio.
- At Acton Eastside, young people are not simply preparing for the next grade, test, or credential. They are developing the academic skills, judgment, character, and self-knowledge to become capable lifelong learners and discover how they can use their gifts to make a meaningful impact on the world.
